Watching Stephano Ricci, this demoniac strict man, is a pure pleasure. It seems that an unknown and, judging by the harsh nervous movements, wicked power is directing his pencil. His raven-black brows are risen, the eyes are focused, smoke of a cigarette held between his fingers is wreathing, oil colours are everywhere. The way he creates his works is an art in itself. He is probably absolutely aware of it — there is no try-out, no preparation or drafts at all. A layer by layer he is just splashing everything he has inside out on the paper, torturing it alive. And on the sheet appear gaping with black emptiness or, on the contrary, shining sensual spots, silhouettes of trees and foggy clouds vailing some hills behind them. Screaming red and fatal black colours that prevail — Eros and Thanatos, libido and mortido — remind of a reckless dance of artist subconscious.

As an artist Stefano Ricci also known since the late 1980s, he draws comics, illustrations for periodicals and literature, as well as making their own stand-alone projects, albums, and books.
For Ricci uses simple materials — he draws on paper, pencil, color in his works most often minimalist — are responsible for it oil paints. The result is just as impressive as the process of creation — the work of Ricci like etching and fresco, being both drawing and painting.

He also worked in design for the theater: in Bologna he collaborated with Teatro Testoni, the Society of Leo De Berardinis, the Theatre of the powder, the Company Modica Manchisi, the Promotion Centre Theatre ‘The Attic’ (of which he created the logo ); for the dance: from 1996 is the author of all accompanying materials to the projects of Raffaella Girdano and the Abbondanza Bertoni Company; in the movies with Mario Martone and Giovanni Maderna.
Together with Giovanna Anceschi they founded the magazine «HAND comics written drawings». Since 2003 he is the art director of «Black and White» magazine of the Experimental Centre of Cinematography in Rome.
Also teacher of the course on comics and contemporary graphics to D.A.M.S. Gorizia, University of Udine, and teaches design at the University of Applied Arts in Hamburg.
